Volkswagen Motorsport
Volkswagen Motorsport is the motor sports department of the automotive group Volkswagen AG in Hanover. Jost Capito is since 1 May 2012 Engine Sports Director of Volkswagen.
History
Volkswagen began in 1966, with its commitment to motor sports and founded the Formula Vee his first racing series. She was an entry-level series to Formula racing and was with vehicles that were equipped with beetle technique down. Multiple become Formula 1 World Champion began their motorsport career in Formula Vee.
The Scirocco Cup in 1976 was the first brand trophy. Later, the golf cup and the Polo Cup followed.
In the 1970s, Volkswagen has been renowned for rallying and 1978 denied Jochi Kleint for VW Motorsport with a VW Golf 1600 Rallycross Championship. Was founded in 1980 in rallying with the Golf Rally Cup, the first brand trophy which existed for half a decade. 1980 succeeded Freddy Kottulinsky in the VW Iltis the first victory in the Dakar Rally. Kenneth Eriksson won the 1986 VW Golf GTI 16V Group A of the World Rally Championship. Since the 1990s, Volkswagen also had a large range of vehicles for customer sport, including kit cars and vehicles of the Group N and Super 1600's.
From 1979 to the Circuit
From 1979 to 1994, Volkswagen was active as an engine manufacturer in Formula 3 and won 55 international titles. Past winners include Michael Schumacher, Bernd Schneider, Joachim angle Hock, Tom Kristensen and Kris Nissen. Later organized with the Volkswagen Formula König and Formula Volkswagen Motorsport series for beginners beginners. 2007 Volkswagen rose again in the Formula 3 Euro Series.
1998 launched the Lupo Cup and later the ADAC Volkswagen Polo Cup racing series as an entry in the touring car racing.
The Volkswagen factory team in 1997 in the VW Golf TDI second in the 24-hour race on the Nürburgring on the Nordschleife. 2007 GTI was in the Gulf of eight and achieved a class win. 2003-2011 in the Dakar Rally
Under the new Motorsport Director Kris Nissen, Volkswagen decreased between 2003 and again in 2011 at the Dakar Rally in part. In the first year the team was not competitive with the VW Buggy Tarek, but was later with the VW Race Touareg the toughest opponent of the Mitsubishi factory team. In the 2009 Dakar Rally Giniel de Villiers and Dirk von Zitzewitz arrive for the first time the Dakar victory for Volkswagen Race Touareg. This was also the first victory of a diesel vehicle and the first victory of an African. 2010 and 2011 could be repeated this success by Carlos Sainz / Lucas Cruz, Nasser Al-Attiyah/Timo Gottschalk, respectively. From 2011 in the World Rally Championship
On May 5, 2011 Volkswagen announced the full entry into the World Rally Championship for season 2013. To use the Volkswagen Polo R WRC is based on the VW Polo V come with 1.6 - liter turbo engine.
