When Volkswagen Passat Variant ( also Passat Xinlingyu or New Lingyu ), is a passenger car of the middle class, which is produced for the market of the People's Republic of China since 2009 by Shanghai Volkswagen plant in Nanjing. It was built on the platform of the Škoda Superb. The technique as well as the body was largely taken over by the Passat Lingyu.

Also, the engines still all come from the Lingyu. The entry-level model has an inline four- cylinder engine with a displacement of 1984 cc and has a power output of 85 kW. In the middle of a 110 kW turbocharged engine with a displacement of 1781 cm ³ stands. The top model, however, has a V6 engine with a displacement of 2771 cc and an output of 140 kW.

There is the Passat in the equipment lines Zenxiang, Zenping, Zzenshi, Zenjie and Zhizen.

As FAW -Volkswagen summer of 2010, the contract was awarded to European estate version of the Passat B6 via CKD kits to assemble, the model name was already in use. Optional was the name Magotan Variant to choose from. But because of the different components were seen ultimately on a common name. The model name was eventually shortened to VW Variant.
