Volkswagen Taro

The VW Taro is a pickup of the Volkswagen brand, which was produced as a licensed version of the Toyota Hilux 1989 to 1995 in the VW commercial vehicles plant in Hanover, and from 1995 to 1997 Volkswagen plant in Emden.

There were two fundamentally different types: the taro with rear wheel drive and a four-wheel drive model. The rear-wheel drive Taro was equipped with a driver's cab with up to three seats. The all-wheel drive model with different bodies of two full-size seats across the XtraCab model with two full and two auxiliary seats up to double cabin with depending on the type of seat five to six seats (solid front and rear or front, two single and back through). The cargo area decreases with the length of the cabin, the XtraCab model with almost five meters in length dominates the other two, almost equal length models by 25 cm.

The drive was carried out at the two-wheel drive model on the rear axle. The all-wheel drive model had a selectable four-wheel drive. In this model, in the normal operation, the rear axle, the front axle is driven, and a transfer case switched on only when required. This had to be additionally coupled via manual freewheel hubs with the wheels. ( So-called free wheel hubs allow for four-wheel vehicles, a low-wear and fuel efficient driving, as the drive train for the front and rear wheels are not permanently moves along ).

In the 4 × 4 to exist, a reduction that allows a top speed of around 60 km / h in fifth gear. Production started in 1989, built the taro until 1997.

The payload is about a ton.

While VW only for model year 2010 with the VW Amarok served segment of a potentially off-road pickups, Toyota produces the Hilux in progressive generations model as before.
