Volkswagen Trucks and Buses

Volkswagen Trucks and Buses, is a truck and bus brand, which was sold in 2009 by Volkswagen AG to MAN. The brand will continue as Volkswagen, even after the company now operates under the name " MAN Latin America".

History

The origins of the brand date back to Simca, which established its Brazilian subsidiary Simca do Brasil in 1958. In 1966, Chrysler took over first 92 % and a year later Simca do Brasil completely. Since 1969, Chrysler produced in the work truck of the Dodge brand.

Volkswagen AG took over in 1979, initially 67 % of the now as Chrysler Motors do Brasil Ltda. operating under the name the company and increased its interest a year later to 100%. In 2000, the truck and bus division was officially part of the Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles brand of VW.

In November 1996, today's main plant was opened in Resende in Brazil, which is located around 150 km from Rio de Janeiro and 250 km from São Paulo. 2004, the plant was opened in Mexico and included the production of trucks in a third plant in South Africa 2007.

The main markets are Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, the rest of the South and Central American countries as well as Africa and the Middle East. On the company website and individual dealers in the U.S., Spain, Germany and China are reported.

MAN took over in 2009, the truck and bus division and leads them under the Volkswagen brand further.
