Volkwin

Volkwin of Naumburg to winter sites (also Wolquin, Folkvin, Volkewîn, Wolguinus, Wolgulin, † September 22, 1236 ) was from 1209 to 1236 Mr. Master of the Livonian Order.

Volkwin probably came from Naumburg an der Saale. He was the successor of Vinno of Rohrbach, the 1207-1209 first Lord Master of the Sword Brothers (Latin Fratres miliciae Christi de Livonia ) was. Volkwin itself was a confidant of the Riga Bishop Albrecht of Buxthoeven (around 1165-1229 ). He led the trains east cross of the Order against the peoples of the Baltic region, introduced by Christianity there, and the land should be captured for the Order.

Volkwin fell in 1236 at the Battle of Siauliai in the fight against the Samogitian. The battle was a major defeat of the Livonian Order. A year later the Livonian Order, became part of the Teutonic Order. The site of the battle is not known exactly. Historians believe it either near the Lithuanian Šiauliai ( German Schaulen ) or Vecsaule (translated Alt- Schaulen ) in the southwest of Latvia.
