Volt-ampere reactive

The Var ( with the unit symbol: var) is a legal entity for the reactive power in the electrical industry. The Var was formerly blind Watt ( unit symbol: bW ) called.

Origin

The term Var comes from the French term " Voltampère réactif " and was proposed in the early 1930s by the Romanian Constantin Budeanu and established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Prior to the VDE - Committee on units and Formelwesen (AEF ) focused on 22 March 1921, a draft on the name of AC quantities. It was proposed to designate the unit of reactive power with the name Dol, named after Mikhail Ossipowitsch Doliwo - Dobrowolski. This name eventually could not prevail at the IEC.

Similar power units

According to the International System of Units is defined as a unit of power, the watt. After German reunification Regulation and in accordance with DIN 1301 Part 1, as a special unit of electrical reactive power the Var be used for the apparent power VA; the Wadden is then used only for real power.
