Volturara Appula

Volturara Appula is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 468 inhabitants (as at 31 December 2012) in the province of Foggia in Apulia. The municipality is situated approximately 41 km west-northwest of Foggia and directly borders the province of Benevento (Campania ).

History

The historic settlement Uluria which was probably inhabited by Japigi, was destroyed during the Samnite Wars. From the 10th century ( 969 ) was located in Volturara Appula a bishopric, which existed until 1818 and in the meantime merged ( 1433 ) with the bishopric of Montecorvino. Since 1968 there is the titular Vulturaria.

Traffic

By the Strada Statale 17 community dell'Appennino Abruzzese e Appulo Sannitica leads from Antrodoco to Foggia. From here, the former State Road 369 Appulo Fortorina (now Provincial Road 135 ) to Reino from.
