Volume Table Of Contents

The ( rarer ) Volume Table Of Contents ( VTOC ) is the contents of a DASD volume. In the VTOC are the physical location of the individual extents and metadata such as file format, creation, access, expiry date per dataset.

The VTOC corresponds to the tape header with tape media.
