Volvo Olympian

The Volvo Olympian was a rear-engined double-decker bus, the Volvo bus in Irvine, North Ayrshire in Scotland, as a successor to the Leyland Olympian from 1992 to 2000 produced. The model was replaced by the two-axle Volvo B7TL and three-axle Volvo Super Olympian.

Model History

The Olympian had a modified chassis of its predecessor Leyland Olympian; the body remained the same. He received the Steering Volvo and the Volvo Z- cam brakes. The first models had either the Cummins L10 engine with 252 hp or the Volvo TD102KF diesel engine with 215 hp, coupled to a Voith DIWA or ZF Ecomat transmission. From the end of 1996 was only available with electronic fuel injection, the Volvo D10A 245 hp Euro II engine. The chassis was also with bodies, the bodybuilder Walter Alexander Coachbuilders, Northern Counties and East Lancs ( Pyoneer ) available.

The Volvo Olympian was just as popular as its predecessor in the UK. Much of the production was exported to Hong Kong and Singapore. Until the end of production in 2000 caused over 10,000 Leyland-/Volvo-Olympian-Chassis. The last bus of the model was built for Yorkshire Coast liner and had a Alexander Royale bodywork.
