Vomp

Vomp is a market town with 4696 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2013 ) in the district Schwaz, Tyrol ( Austria ). The municipality is located in the judicial district of Schwaz.

Geographical Location

The approximately 30 km east of Innsbruck Located in the Lower Inn Valley market Vomp has an area of ​​182.61 km ². It is thus in terms of area, the second largest municipality in the district of Schwaz and the ninth largest municipality in the province of Tyrol. It extends from the Inn in the south to the north of the Karwendel with the nature park " Karwendel " to the German border.

Vomp lies on 566 meters above sea level.

History

Vomp was 930 AD first mentioned as " Fonapa ". For the 1000 year celebration in 1930 Vomp received from the Provincial Government of Tyrol, the municipal coat of arms awarded. By order of 20 May 2008, the Tyrolean provincial government brought the Vomp with effect from 15 May 2009 on the market community.

Structures

  • Parish Church of Sts. Peter and Paul: The Gothic parish church, first mentioned in 1138, was built in its present form in 1480 and equipped Classicist after a fire in 1809. Frescoes and altars date from 1820.
  • Pin Fiecht: The Benedictine monastery in the district Fiecht was built in its present form in the early 18th century, when the monastery relocated here after several firing from the original site George Berg. The Baroque abbey church was built from 1741 to 1750. On the George Berg is still the Gothic former monastery church of St. George from the years 1654-1660, which is a Marian pilgrimage church with a miraculous image of the Mater Dolorosa from the 15th century to today. Not far away is the Linde Church, the original pilgrimage church from the 15th century, when the monastery was still on the George Berg.
  • Castle Sigmund lust: the former hunting lodge of Archduke Sigismund the Wealthy was completed in 1473 and recalls the centuries- old hunting tradition in Vomp. It is accessible privately owned and not open to the public.
  • The natural monument Large maple floor with its more than 500 year old maple trees is an impressive sight, especially in autumn when the leaf color.

Gralswerk

On belonging to the market Vomp Vomperberg is the headquarters of the Grail Movement Gralswerk.

Community partnerships

Community partnerships maintains Vomp since 1988 with the French community Nazelles- Négron in Touraine, on the Loire, and since 1998 with the Bavarian village of Bad Endorf near the Chiemsee.
