From ( [ vɔ ː n]; icelandic for " hope" ) is the debut album by the Icelandic band Sigur Rós.

From 1997 appeared in Iceland about the label Smekkleysa; However, there were only sold under 500 copies. In 2004 it was re-released for the global market after the band byrjun by the succession albums Ágætis and () became popular. Meanwhile, From, just like Ágætis byrjun also received platinum status in Iceland.

The recordings of lasting very long; Nevertheless, the band was not very happy with the result and wanted to re-record the songs again. Due to time constraints, however, it was decided to end it. A year after the release of a remix album was released by this name from Brigði that both with " disappointment " ( Vonbrigði ) as well as with "Variations from " translate ( From Brigði ) leaves. In addition to the remixes It contains a song called " leit af lifi " that really should have appeared on by, but was not ready in time for publication.

Even the title of the first regular album by From, Ágætis byrjun ( " A pretty good place to start " ) also points out that the band was not particularly happy with Von.

Reviews

From received on the occasion of the re-release in 2004 mostly rather positive reviews. So Allmusic awarded the album three and a half out of five and at Pitchfork Media 7.8 out of 10.
