Von Braun is an impact crater on the northwestern edge of the lunar front side, on the western edge of Oceanus Procellarum. To the northwest is the crater Gerard, in the southwest of the crater Lavoisier.

As the crater Lavoisier E, which touches the western edge of von Braun, has also von Braun in his inside the fracture structures of a floor - fractured craters on. The rim is heavily eroded.

The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1994 after the German rocket engineer Wernher von Braun. Previously, the crater was known as Lavoisier D.
