Von Neumann (crater)

74.03

Von Neumann is an impact crater in the northern hemisphere of the moon back.

Location

It touches virtually the south- southwestern edge of the large crater Campbell. At the northeastern edge of the crater Ley joins, which is slightly overlapped by the outer foothills. To the west lies the conspicuous crater Wiener and south-southwest Nikolayev.

The crater can not be observed directly from Earth.

Nature

Von Neumann has a wide inner crater wall with numerous terraces. The width of the walls varies and is in the south at its greatest. At the point of closest approach to Campbell in the northwest of the crater some scree are visible. The interface between the two craters, like the rest of the area is uneven and jagged. The Kraterumriß is roughly circular and appears somewhat smoother in the southwest.

The crater floor is on the west side almost flat. From south to north crossing a small ridge inside the crater and on the east side of the surface is uneven. The crater interior and the edges have no particular impact record.
