Vorab Glacier

The preliminary Glacier (Romansh Glatscher dil advance? / I ) is a glacier on the eastern flank of the advance in the Swiss cantons of Glarus and Graubünden. The name derives probably from the point of view of the Glarus, after which the glacier lies "before" and the cantonal border to the south falls ( "abe " in dialect ).

It is situated at an average altitude of about 2,700 m and has a share in the municipalities of Glarus Süd and Laax. The Glarus he reaches a height of 3018 m.

On the glacier is a mountain airfield for aircraft ( Swiss coordinates 730.600/193.350 ). About the pre- glacial performs the highest high-voltage line in Europe, the advance line.

Ski resort

The preliminary part of the glacier ski area in the " White Arena » Flims -Laax -Falera and is accessed by a double ski lift. Among other things, ibex, chamois and ptarmigan live in its environment.

Future of the glacier

The glacier has fallen sharply in the last 30 years and is preserved since 2007 in the summer in the upper steep slope by the mountain railway company with white towels. It may be puzzled when the glacier loses its name and only appears as a snowfield on the cards.
