Vossem is a district of the former municipality Gerderath and belongs to the town Erkelenz. It is located in the district Heinberg on the eastern edge of the flange Erkelenzer. The distance to the nearest major town of Wassenberg is about 5 km.

History

Vossem was first mentioned historically as Voishem in 1354. From 1460 documents exist with the name Voyssem. The name is derived from the Middle German word voss, vos ( = fox ).
