Votorantim is a municipality in the southwest of the state of São Paulo in Brazil. In Votorantim live 105 193 inhabitants.

History

The area around Votorantim was settled mid-seventeenth century. In 1679 there was built a chapel there. The Portuguese immigrants Antônio Pereira Inácio founded in 1918 in the city of the Brazilian company Grupo Votorantim. In the later 1950s there were about 15,000 people in the city. On December 1, 1963 Votorantim was a municipality with a referendum. The first local elections were then held on 7 March 1965. First mayor was Pedro Augusto Rangel.
