History

Findings and excavations indicate a prehistoric settlement of the district. 1336 was the circle Lafões, belonged to the Vouzela first town charter by King D.Dinis. 1436 was Vouzela seat of the circle, and thus replaced Vila do Banho (now São Pedro do Sul ) from. In the 16th century the seat came back to Vila do Banho, and the circle Lafões was divided. In addition to the independent circuit São Pedro do Sul there arose the independent circuit Vouzela. After re- merge the two groups were separated again in 1696.

After the meantime re- merging the parties were finally separated in 1834, also the circle Vouzela has been significantly extended by some 1871 affiliated churches. Since the last reorganization in 1973 the county existed in its current expansion.

Vouzela is the seat of the homonymous district. The neighboring districts are (clockwise starting from the north ): São Pedro do Sul, Viseu, Tondela, Agueda and Oliveira de Frades.

Traffic

Vouzela was connected through his station of Ramal de Viseu to the national railway network, since the closure of the route in 1990 train station, bridge and locomotives are issued as a souvenir of the time.

The place is along the national road N228 with its 8 km motorway A25 (also E80 ) and its own exit ( # 13 ) connected.

Vouzela is integrated into the national bus network of speech Expressos.
