VR Class Dr12

The Dr 12 series is a heavy six-axle diesel-electric locomotive series, which was procured 1959-1963 by the Finnish State Railways ( VR). There were 42 pieces of these locomotives with the CC wheel arrangement built '.

Technical

The mechanical part is from locomotives and Valmet in Finland. The electrical part was manufactured by Brown, Boveri & Cie as license built by Oy Stromberg AB in Pitäjänmäki. Remodeling in DR15

In January 1980, a DR12 was tentatively rebuilt and as the class DR15 with the number 2439. This conversion did not satisfy, so that the 2439 was a unique piece that was taken out of service in 1984. The Board decided to take a restructuring of the DR12 DR16 for purchasing new series from 1985.
