VR Class Dr13

The Dr 13 was a series of diesel-electric locomotives, which were procured 1962-1965 by the Finnish State Railways ( VR). These locomotives the wheel arrangement C'C ' had two diesel engines that powered the generators, and the bogie an electric traction motor that powered all the axes (mono motor bogie ). The first two machines were manufactured in 1962 by Alsthom in France. The remaining 52 were built 1963-1965 under license from locomotives and Valmet in Finland.

Technical

Each locomotive had two diesel engines. This 16 -cylinder 4-stroke diesel engines with turbocharging had a bore of 175 mm and a stroke of 190 mm. They drove to the generators that produced electricity for the drive motors. The electric traction motors had two gear ratios: Once a gear ratio M for passenger trains, which allowed a top speed of 140 km / h and a gear ratio G for freight trains with a reduced to 100 km / h and for a higher tension. There was a notably asymmetric outboard gear boxes and final drives of the internally mounted wheel sets. The DR13 were the last Finnish locomotives that are not equipped with SA3 - central buffer couplings.
