VR Class Sm4

The Sm4 series is an electric motor coaches of the Finnish State Railways VR. It was developed in the railways division of Fiat, but manufactured by Construcciones y Auxiliar the wagon manufacturer de Ferrocarriles (CAF ) in Spain.

The first 10 units were delivered in 1999 and used in the Helsinki commuter train. On 25 June 2002, the Board announced that it had ordered an additional 20 units. These were delivered in the period from April 2004 to February 2005. The main application routes lead from Helsinki to Riihimäki and Karis. The field of application but may also extend to Tampere.

In the Helsinki metropolitan area the Sm4 are the most commonly encountered EMUs.
