The Vrátna Valley ( Slow Vrátna ) is a mountain valley in the Mala Fatra in Slovakia.

Location and description

The Vrátna Valley is located in the Krivánska Fatra - the northeastern part of the Lesser Fatra - Terchová south of the community. It is in the east and south of the main ridge, bounded on the north and west side of the mountain ridges. Two of these side ridges form at the mouth of the valley through which the stream Varínka cut a deep limestone rocks limited bottleneck ( Tiesňavy ).

Just above this bottleneck, the valley divides into two separate from the mountain Grúň parts; to the south the valley Stara Dolina valley Nová dolina runs ( German as " Old Valley " ), to the east ( about " New Valley "). In the latter is Štefanová, the only enclosed village of Vrátna Valley.

Tourism

The valley is one of the most scenic regions in Slovakia and is dominated by tourism. There are several ski lifts and, since March 2006, a cable car to the saddle Snilovské saddleback. A number of marked trails leading into the surrounding peaks (including Velky Kriváň chleb, Velky Rozsutec, Stoh, Sokolie, Boboty ).
