Vredendal

Vredendal is a town in the municipality in the district Matzikama West Coast, Western Cape Province in South Africa. The location is situated 300 kilometers north of Cape Town in the Valley of the Olifants River. Vredendal 2011 had 18,170 inhabitants.
History
Vredendal ( German: , Friedenstal ') was named probably after a collision in 1668 between cattle raiders and farmers. Cattle were stolen from the farm Bakleiplaas, and peace was restored to the present area.
