Center of Vrin

Vrin ( [ vʁin ]? / I ) until December 31, 2012, a municipality in the Val Lumnezia in Surselva district in the canton of Graubünden in Switzerland. The village is situated about 21 km from Illanz.

On January 1, 2013, it merged with the municipalities Cumbel, cutlasses, Lumbrein, Morissen, Suraua, Vignogn Vella and the new community Lumnezia.

The figures indicate the double patronage of the parish church: the Lamb of God to John the Baptist and the star on Mary.

Model project

The place that had the entire 20th century of time lost inhabitants, was in the eighties and nineties to a model project of the Foundation Pro Vrin, the municipality / local authority, the Meliorationsgenossenschaft, the cantonal historic preservation and the ETH Zurich for the strengthening of village infrastructure and resettlement.

The inhabitants bought at the beginning of the eighties all the available building land the place so any speculation. Meadows were combined in a ratio of 1:5, located a butcher, founded a cooperative. Several buildings, as most of the wooden log cabin in knitwear design were built.

The place and the project is nationwide attention as the problem of rural-urban migration is significantly worldwide. 1998 Vrin awarded the Wakker prize for village renewal ( " for the careful integration of new agricultural farm building in the village image "). The Vrin farmer's son and architect Gion A. Caminada created in Vrin a number of buildings, to develop the tradition of timber construction as the new community center and hall, the telephone box at the post office, the butcher and the dead room below the church.

According to 2000 census is one of the few Vrin Grisons former municipalities, virtually all residents speak Romansh in the 99% as a spoken language, and 96% as the main language (only 4% German ).
