Vrmac-Tunnel

The 1637 m long Vrmac tunnel is a road tunnel near the town of Kotor in south-western Montenegro. It crosses the mountain Vrmac, which lies in the Bay of Kotor between Tivat and Kotor. The north portal is located in Kotor during the south portal lies just northeast of Tivat.

Construction

Due to the importance of traffic engineering tunnel he was already released in 1991 in a semi-finished state for the traffic because there were no funds for the full completion available for the foreseeable future. From 2004 to early 2007, the tunnel was then completely removed from the Austrian construction company Strabag. Since then he meets European standards.

Importance

The Vrmac tunnel plays an important role for the transport links of the Bay of Kotor to Tivat, because before the construction of the tunnel was only a winding narrow mountain pass through the Vrmac or even closer road at the foot of Vrmac along the Bay of Kotor.
