Vuarmarens

Vuarmarens ( Freiburg Patois Vouarmarin? / I ) was until 31 December 2011, a municipality in the district of the canton of Fribourg Glane in Switzerland.

On 1 January 2006 the then independent municipality Esmonts was merged with the municipality of Vuarmarens Vuarmarens. On January 1, 2012 Vuarmarens gave his hand to the independence and merged with the municipality Ursy.

Geography

Vuarmarens is located on 685 m above sea level. M., 9 km southwest of the district town Romont and 3.5 km south-east of Moudon (air line). The village is on a plateau south of the village Bach, east of the upper Broyetals, at the western foot of the Signal d' Esmonts, in the south-western Fribourg country.

The area of ​​6.0 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehügellandes of Fribourg Mittelland. The central part is occupied by the broad basin of the village Bach, which is surrounded on three sides by forest heights: in the northwest of De Ardra, in northeastern Riondbochet and to the east ( 783 m asl. ) ( 834 m asl. ) from the high plateau of the contour (837 m above sea level. M. ). In the east, the municipality of soil extends to the headwaters of the Ruisseau des Vaux and on the high plateau of Esmonts, on the 853 m above sea level. M. the highest point of Vuarmarens is achieved. To the south, the area extends in the little valley of the village of Bach's Ursy. From the municipality surface 1997 6 % came from settlements, 27 % of forest and woody plants and 67% from agriculture.

To Vuarmarens include the village Esmonts (828 m above sea level. M. ) on the plateau between the valleys of Broye and Glane, the hamlet Morlens ( 725 m above sea level. M. ) in the trough northeast of the village as well as some Hofsiedlungen and individual farms.

Population

With a population of 600 (as at 31 December 2011) Vuarmarens was one of the smaller communities of the Canton of Fribourg. Of the 97.0 % inhabitants are French-speaking, German-speaking 2.0 % and 0.6 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Vuarmarens amounted in 1850 to 363 residents in 1900 to 433 inhabitants ( in each case including Morlens and Esmonts ). Throughout the 20th century, they took by strong emigration to 1980 to 378 persons. Since then, a significant population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Vuarmarens was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, the dairy industry, animal husbandry and agriculture have an important place in the economic structure of the population. Some other jobs are in the local retail industry and the services available. In recent decades, the village has developed thanks to its attractive location and into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions Moudon, Oron and Romont.

Traffic

The community is conveniently technically quite well developed. It lies on the main road from Moudon to Romont. By Bus Transports Publics Fribourgeois, which runs from Romont after Palézieux- Gare, Vuarmarens is connected to the public transport network.

History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 996 under the name of Villa Walmarengi. Later, the names Walmarens ( 1334 ), Warm Arens ( 1578) and Varmarans (1668 ) published during the current name Vuarmarens ( 1403 ) is first delivered. The place name is derived from the Germanic personal name Walmar and means with the suffix -ene as much as the people of Walmar.

The area of Vuarmarens belonged in the Middle Ages to the possession of the Abbey of Saint -Maurice. Together with Montet ( Glâne) formed Vuarmarens since the Middle Ages the small Villardin rule (also called Montet villa Rdens ), which belonged to different masters since the 13th century. When the Bernese 1536 Vaud conquered Vuarmarens came under the rule of Freiburg and the Bailiwick Rue has been assigned. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ) belonged to the village during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district Rue and was incorporated in 1848 in the District Glane. Vuarmarens does not have its own church; it belongs to the parish Ursy - Morlens which originally dates back to the Church of Morlens.

Effective on January 1, 1991, the hitherto politically independent Morlens was incorporated into Vuarmarens. On 1 January 2006 the village was merged with Esmonts Vuarmarens in the context of the Canton of Fribourg funded since 2000 municipal mergers.
