Vucherens is a municipality in the district Broye Vully the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Vucherens is located on 678 m above sea level. It is 25 km southwest of the district town Payerne ( straight line ). The scattered settlement municipality extends on a ridge between the valleys of Bressonne and Carrouge, northeast of the heights of the Jorat, in the eastern canton of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​3.3 km ² large municipality area includes a portion of the Molassehügellandes northeast of the Jorat. The area is bounded on the west by the Bressonne, to the east by Carrouge. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1215 under the name Wisserens. Later, the names Wichereins ( 1251 ) and Wicherens published ( 1364 ). The place name is from the Burgundian personal names Wisihar derived ( in the 9th century as Wicharius known) and means for the people of Wisihar.

Vucherens was the Savoyard castle Bailiwick Moudon in the Middle Ages part. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536, the village came under the administration of the bailiwick Moudon. After the collapse of the ancien régime Vucherens belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the District Moudon. From 1700 to 1900 was mined in several quarries near Vucherens tuff, which was often used for bridges, fountains and home construction in the region.
