Vuillecin

Vuillecin is a commune in the French department Doubs in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vuillecin is located on 816 m above sea level, about 5 km north- west of the town of Pontarlier (air line). The scattered village extends in the Jura, in the eastern part of the broad plateaux of Arlier ( Pontarlier - Frasnian ), near the Drugeon, at the southern foot of the hill of the Côte du Fol

The area of ​​14:24 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the French Jura. The southern part of the area is occupied by the plateau of Arlier, the average is 810 m and is mostly covered by meadows. Previously, the Drugeon meandered through this plane; today it is channeled and drains the area east to the Doubs. To the northwest, the municipality's area extends over the broad crest of the Côte du Fol, which is forested almost continuously until the plateau of La Vrine. On the Côte du Fol the highest elevation of Vuillecin is achieved with 944 m. The northeastern boundary form of the Cret de Cotaroz ( 892 m) and the pastures of Pres Ambert.

Neighboring communities of Vuillecin are Goux -les- Usiers and Bugny in the north, and Arçon Doubs River in the east, Dommartin in the southwest and Goux -les- Usiers in the West.

History

Various findings that were promoted during excavations of the tumulus de Cotaroz evident, indicate that the municipality of Vuillecin was already inhabited in prehistoric times. In the Middle Ages Vuillecin was the site of a house of the Templars Coming, which had been founded by the Lords of Joux. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 to France. Since 1999 Vuillecin is a member of the comprehensive 10 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Larmont.

Attractions

The village church of Saint- Claude was built in 1804. Two other chapels date from the 19th century: Saint- Georges ( 1852) and Saint- Lazare. In the old town several farmhouses in the traditional style of the Haut-Doubs are obtained; the oldest building dates from 1713. former mill house on Drugeon is no longer in operation today.

Population

With 582 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vuillecin one of the small communities of the department of Doubs. After the population had decreased in the first half of the 20th century (1881 364 persons were still counted ), a striking population growth was recorded since the mid-1960s again. Since then, the population has more than tripled. Outside the old town center, numerous new single-family homes have been created.

Economy and infrastructure

Vuillecin was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by agriculture, especially dairy farming and livestock village.
