Vuisternens-devant-Romont

Vuisternens -devant -Romont ( Freiburg Patois Vouèthèrnin - devin - Remon? / I ) is a municipality in the district of the canton of Fribourg Glane in Switzerland. The former German name Winter Lingen at Remund is no longer used today. With effect from 1 January 2003, the previously independent municipalities Lieffrens, Les Ecasseys, Sommentier, La Magne, La Joux, Villariaz and Estévenens were incorporated to Vuisternens -devant -Romont, on 1 January 2004 came aboard the municipality of La Neirigue.

Geography

Vuisternens -devant -Romont is on 778 m above sea level. Level, 5 km south of the district town Romont (air line). The village is on the wide height between the valleys of the Glane in the west and the Neirigue in the east, in the south-western Fribourg country.

The area of ​​24.1 km ² large municipality area comprises a portion of the higher Molassehügellandes Fribourg Mittelland. The central part of the area is occupied by gently sloping to the north slope of Vuisternens, which is drained by several small streams to Neirigue. To the north, the area extends into the broad valley of the Neirigue, flanked by the forest height Les Brévires ( 851 m above sea level. M. ) in the west and the hills of Mont Marly in the east. Here goes a narrow strip across the slope of the Estévenens to Marly belonging hill Les Verraux ( 976 m above sea level. The southern part of the municipality includes the corrugated Molassehügelland in the Fribourg foothills of the Alps. The highest point is 957 meters above sea level here. Population

With 2118 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) Vuisternens -devant -Romont belongs to the medium-sized municipalities in the canton of Fribourg. Of the residents, 96.1 % are French-speaking, German-speaking 2.4% and 1.1 % speak Portuguese (as of 2000). The population of Vuisternens -devant -Romont amounted 1900 to 1868 inhabitants (including all now incorporated villages ). After peaking around 1940 (1995 inhabitants), a decrease of 32% on 1355 persons was observed by high migration to 1980. Only since a significant population growth was recorded again.

Economy

Vuisternens -devant -Romont was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Previously, the Neirigue mills were operated by water power. In the 19th century played the straw-plaiting, thanks to the then widespread cultivation of grain a significant role.

Even today, the dairy industry, animal husbandry and agriculture have an important place in the economic structure of the population. More jobs are in small local manufacturing and services available. In the municipality of several sawmills, carpentry and carpentry as well as an undertaking for the manufacture of agricultural machinery are represented. In recent decades, the village has developed into a residential community. Many workers are therefore commuters who work mainly in the regions Romont, Bull, but partly also in Vevey area.

Traffic

The community is conveniently technically quite well developed. It lies on the main road from Romont to Bulle. The nearest links to the A12, which is open from Vevey to Bern passable since 1981, is located about 6 km from the town center. On 1 July 1868, the railway line from Romont was put into operation after bull with a railway station in Vuisternens -devant -Romont. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 929 under the name Winterningis. Later, the names Wisternegus appeared ( in the 12th century), Wistarnens ( 1198 ) and Wisternens ( 1453). The origin of the place name is not clear. Vuisternens probably goes back to the person's name Winitarn and means with the suffix -ene as much as the people of Winitarn. Other sources give a derivation from the Germanic word ventru (winter) possible.

Vuisternens made ​​since the Middle Ages its own rule, which came into the sphere of influence of the Counts of Savoy after 1270. When the Bernese 1536 Vaud conquered Vuisternens -devant -Romont came under the rule of Freiburg and the Bailiwick Romont been assigned. After the collapse of the ancien régime (1798 ), the village belonged during the Helvetic Republic and the subsequent time to the district Romont. The southernmost parts of municipalities with Lieffrens, Les Ecasseys and La Joux contrast, were under the rule Rue, in 1536 the Bailiwick and 1798 the District Rue. With the new cantonal constitution of 1848, the previous districts Romont and Rue merged Glane in the new district.

As part of the canton of Fribourg funded since 2000 municipal mergers, a merger of Vuisternens -devant -Romont with the surrounding small communities was prepared. After the residents of all communities had agreed in 2002 with a Yes majority of an average of 75 % of the merger were to 1 January 2003, the previously politically independent villages Estévenens, Villariaz, Lieffrens, Sommentier, Les Ecasseys, La Magne and La Joux with Vuisternens -devant -Romont merged. A year later, on 1 January 2004, the incorporation of La Neirigue. With this merger, the whole church was given a new coat of arms.

Attractions

The present building of the parish church of Sainte -Marie was built in 1825 in the style of classicism. Vuisternens -devant -Romont and its surrounding towns have some characteristic farmhouses from the 17th to 19th centuries.
