Vulbens

Vulbens is a commune in the French department of Haute- Savoie department in the Rhône-Alpes region.

Geography

Vulbens is located on 484 m above sea level. Level, about 20 kilometers southwest of the city of Geneva (air line). The village is located on the southwestern edge of the lake basin, south of the Rhone on the eastern foot of the Montagne de Vuache, in Genevois, near the border with Switzerland.

The area of ​​12.53 square kilometers municipal area includes a portion of the Genevois. The northern boundary runs along the Rhône, which is dammed up in front of the upper entrance to the Défilé de l' Ecluse to an elongated shallow lake with Schwemmlandinseln. From here, the municipality's area extends southward over the floodplains and a 100 meter-high, relatively steep slope to the adjacent plateau. The northern part of this plateau is occupied by woodland Bois de Collogny, the southern part of agricultural land. The plateau of Vulbens is subdivided by several short erosion valleys; forms the eastern boundary of the Ruisseau de Vosogne. To the southwest of the municipality of soil ranges on the densely wooded, narrow ridge of the Montagne de Vuache, on 920 m above sea level. M. the highest elevation of Vulbens is achieved.

To Vulbens addition to the actual village are above the settlements of La Fontaine (510 m above sea level. M. ) and Faramaz (486 m above sea level. M. ) east of the village. Neighboring communities of Vulbens are Valleiry in the east, Dingy- en- Vuache in the south, Clara Fond- Arcine and Chevrier in the West, Collonges and Puni in the north and the Swiss community Chancy in the Northeast.

History

The village is first mentioned under the name of Villa Wulbeengi writing in the 11th century. Later, the names Vurbens and Virbens published. The origin of the place name is not clear. Wulbeengi could be interpreted as a modification of Wilbadingi, the latter about as much meaning as in the people of Willibald. In the Middle Ages Vulbens formed its own little rule, which was under the Counts of Geneva in the 13th century.

Attractions

The village church dates originally from the 13th century but was extensively rebuilt in the 19th century, incorporating the old choir and enlarged. Among the secular buildings are the Château de la Tour (mostly from the 17th century, parts of the earlier building from the 13th century ) to mention and the Château de Faramaz (17th century).

Population

With 997 inhabitants (as of 1 January 2011) Vulbens one of the small towns in the Haute-Savoie region. Since the mid- 1970s, a significant population increase was recorded. So outside of the old town center numerous single-family homes were built.

Economy and infrastructure

Vulbens was until well into the 20th century a predominantly coined by farming village. Today there are various businesses of the local small business sector. Many employed persons are also commuters who engage in the larger towns in the area, but especially in the Geneva - Annemasse, their work.

The village region has a quite well developed. It lies on the main road N206 that runs from Annemasse via Saint -Julien -en- Genevois to Bellegarde- sur -Valserine. The A40 motorway crosses the municipality, the next port is located, however, at a distance of around 15 kilometers. The place also had a station on the route Bellegarde- Annemasse
