Castle Vuillerens

Vuillerens is a municipality in the district of Morges in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland.

Geography

Vuillerens is located on 528 m above sea level. M., 7 km north of the district capital Morges ( straight line ). The village is located on a slightly inclined to the east slope above the valley of Senoge, in the western Gros de Vaud in the canton of Vaud Mittelland.

The area of ​​6.8 km ² large municipality area includes a section of Gros de Vaud, the granary of the canton of Vaud. Population

Economy

Vuillerens was until the second half of the 20th century, mainly coined by farming village. Even today, agriculture has an important role in the economic structure of the population. History

The first written mention of the village was carried out in 1047 under the name Vuilerens. Later, the names Wilerens ( 1049 ), Willerens ( 1221 ), will Reins ( 1250 ), Wulierens ( 1263 ) and Willierens ( 1345 ) published. The name goes back to the Burgundian personal names Wilihar and means for the people of Wilihar.

Vuillerens shelter since the Middle Ages to the Lords of Cossonay. Since the 12th century the noble family de Vuillerens is detected. 1421 the village came to the family de Colombier, later the ownership changed several times. With the conquest of Vaud by Bern in 1536 Vuillerens came under the administration of the bailiwick of Morges. After the collapse of the ancien régime, the village belonged from 1798 to 1803 during the Helvetic Republic to the canton of Geneva, who came up then with the enactment of the Act of Mediation in the canton of Vaud. 1798 was assigned to the district of Morges.

Attractions

The present parish church was built in 1733 on the site of a previous medieval building. South of the village is the baroque castle, which was built in the years 1706-1712. The main building has two lower wings and contains an auditorium. The castle garden is known for its iris cultures ( approximately 500 species are shown), which bloom in June, respectively. In the center some characteristic arable farm houses from the 17th to 19th centuries have been preserved.
