Vurpăr

Vurpar ( German Castle Hill, Hungarian Vurpód ) is a town in the district of Sibiu in Transylvania, Romania.

History

Vurpar was originally a Transylvanian Saxon village. According to the 1930 census, the settlement had 2,399 inhabitants, including 1,204 Romanians, 961 German, 218 "Gypsy " (Roma), nine Jews, six Hungary, etc., according to denominations: Lutheran 950, 779 and 646 Romanian Orthodox Greek Catholic Christians and nine Jews, eight Baptists, Roman Catholics and four three Reformed.

Infrastructure

From 1910 to the 1990s Vurpar had its own railway station. The station was terminus of a branch line from the " whoosh ", a narrow gauge railway. The route to Vurpar chain in Cornatel on the line Sibiu Agnita.

Attractions

  • The Evangelical fortified church, built in the 13th century, renovated in the 16th century.
