Vuzenica

Vuzenica ( German: Balance Mayrhofen ) is a former Styrian community which is now counted in the region Carinthian in Slovenia.

Location and population

In the overall community consisting of five villages in 2812 people. The main town Vuzenica alone has 1636 inhabitants. The community lies on the river Drava at the confluence with the Cerkvenica, south of Muta.

History

The village was first mentioned in 1238 and is one of the oldest settlements in the valley. Already in 1288 it was mentioned as a market. Rafting gave the place an additional boost. In Vuzenica are, inter alia, the church of Sv. Nikolai ( St. Nicholas ) and the rectory. There, all the names of the pastors are registered on a blackboard. Also the later first bishop of the Archdiocese of Maribor, Anton Martin Slomšek.
