Vy-lès-Filain

Vy- lès- Filain is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Vy- lès- Filain situated at an altitude of 260 m above sea level, about 13 km south of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village extends north of the river valley Ognon, in the valley of the Filaine, between the forest heights of the Bois de Filain in the west and the Grand Bois de Dampierre in the Northeast.

The area of ​​5.31 km ² municipal area includes a portion of the undulating landscape between the river valleys of the south and Ognon Saône in the northwest. The central part of the area is crossed by the oriented in north-south direction of the valley Filaine, which has a width of about 500 meters and is on average 250 m. The stream enters at Vy -lès- Filain from a narrow valley into the well out and drains the area south to Linotte. Flanked the trough of Vy- lès- Filain on both sides of the plateau-like hills, which rise to a height of 280 m. They consist of limestone of the middle Jurassic period. West of the Filaine the plateau of the Bois de Filain expands. In the area of ​​Manitou is 320 m reaches the highest point of Vy- lès- Filain. History

Finds of brick fragments from the Gallo- Roman period indicate an early settlement of the municipality of Vy- lès- Filain. In the Middle Ages Vy belonged to the Free County of Burgundy and in the territory of the Bailliage d' amont. The hamlet of Laine is mentioned in 1159 as a gift in a document of the monastery Bellevaux. As a result, the Templars founded a chapel and a priory. Vy belonged from the 13th century to the possession of the Templars of Laine. Together with the Franche -Comté reached the village with the Peace of Nijmegen in 1678 definitively to France. To a field change occurred in 1800, when the previously independent community Laine was merged with Vy- lès- Filain. Since 2000, Vy- lès- Filain is a member of the comprehensive 21 villages municipal association Communauté de communes du Pays de Montbozon.

Attractions

The village church of Vy- lès- Filain was built in the 19th century in the Gothic Revival style. For the rich feature of the altar from the 18th century and the statue of the Virgin from the 19th century. The buildings of the former Templar house in Laine now belong to a farm.

Population

With 98 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011) Vy- lès- Filain one of the smallest municipalities in the department of Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1901 134 people were still counted ), only small fluctuations were recorded since the early 1980s.

Economy and infrastructure

Vy- lès- Filain was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village.
