Vyatka Governorate

The government of Vyatka (Russian Вятская губерния / Wjatskaja Gubernija ) was an administrative unit in the northeastern European part of the Russian Empire. It comprised by today's standards about the Kirov Oblast and the Republic of Udmurtia. Limited it was from the following provinces (from north clockwise): Vologda, Perm, Ufa, Kazan, Nizhny Novgorod and Kostroma.

It was in 1796 removed from the Kazan province within which it was previously an independent governorship and existed until 1929.

It consisted of 153,658 km ², capital was Vyatka (now Kirov). End of the 19th century, it was divided into 11 counties ( Ujesdy ):

Statistics

In 1897, the province had 3,030,831 inhabitants. Of these, 2,347,169 Russians, Votiaks 377 893, 144 918 Cheremises, 125 514 Tatars, the rest was distributed mainly to smaller nations such as Permyaks or Teptjaren.

In 1900, agriculture was the most important industry, which went about 83 % of the population. The harvest was in 1905 in tons: 33 932 wheat, rye 781 296, oats 1,098,636, barley 187 111, 217 628 potatoes, also spelled, buckwheat, peas and flax was grown. The cattle delivered at the lack of pastures hardly the necessary fields for fertilizer; were counted in 1904: 750,000 horses, 1,100,000 cattle, 1,355,000 sheep, 208,000 pigs and 20,000 goats. In the first place was the iron industry, which was represented mainly by the fiscal Wotkinsche ironworks and through the fiscal gun factory in Izhevsk. The following are the leather manufacture, the chemical industry and the distillery. The domestic industry was widespread and in some branches had developed technology to. In particular, linen weavers was operated (12-14 million meters annually screen ) and making of wooden products ( furniture, cars, wooden smoking pipes); also the production of sheepskins, fishing nets, sickles, cheap copper stuff, belts, as well as activities such as tanning or lathing. In the trade was executed: Cereals, flax, linseed, canvas, leather, wood, salt, and animal skins.
