Vyazniki, Vladimir Oblast

Wjasniki (Russian Вязники ) is a town in Vladimir Oblast (Russia) with 41 248 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ).

Geography

The city is located about 120 km east of the Oblasthauptstadt Vladimir on the right bank of the Klyazma, a left tributary of the opening into the Volga River Oka.

Wjasniki is the Oblast administratively subordinated directly and as the administrative center of the homonymous Rajons.

The town lies on the railway line opened in 1862 Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod ( kilometer 315), on the upside today, much of the features of the Trans-Siberian railway on its western part from Moscow. By Wjasniki the M7 highway Moscow - Nizhny Novgorod -Kazan - Ufa leads (part of European route 22).

History

The village Wjasniki was first mentioned in 1608; since 1611, it was regarded as a trade settlement ( Sloboda ). From 1622 Wjasniki pilgrimage to was " miraculous " Icon of the Mother of God of Kazan.

Since the 17th century Wjasniki was also the center of the flat cultivation and the production of flax and hemp products, such as ropes, also of icon painting, wood carving and horticulture ( from Wjasniki originated in Russia spread sour cherry and cucumber varieties).

Culture and sights

In Wjasniki a number of buildings from the late 19th century 18./Beginn is obtained, including many wooden houses with rich carving and the former country seat of the manufacturer SI Senkov. The Annunciation Cathedral ( Благовещенский собор / Blagoveshchensky Sobor ) dates from 1682 to 1689.
