W.E.W. Petter

William Edward Willoughby Petter (* August 8, 1908, † May 1, 1968 in Béruges, France) ( also Teddy Petter ) was an English aeronautical engineer.

Petter was a descendant of the founder of Westland Aircraft. He joined the company in 1929 and six years later the Technical Director. Petter designed there, for example, the successful pattern Lysander and Welkin.

He left the Westland works, as this end of the Second World War focused on the new helicopter and einstellten the development of fixed-wing aircraft. He accepted a position at English Electric, where he developed the Canberra. It came as part of the development of the English Electric Lightning to disagreements between Petter and management of English Electric, so Petter joined Folland and there built the Gnat and Midge.
