Wabash County (Illinois)

The Wabash County is a county located in the U.S. state of Illinois. In 2010, the County had 11,947 inhabitants and a population density of 20.6 inhabitants per square kilometer. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Mount Carmel.

Geography

The County is located in southeastern Illinois on the west bank of the Wabash River, which forms the border with Indiana. It has an area of 590 square kilometers, of which eleven square kilometers of water surface. At the Wabash County borders the following Nachbarcountys:

History

The Wabash County was formed on December 27, 1824 from the Edwards County to disagreements over the county administrative center.

The first judicial and administrative building was built in 1831. 1857 was completely destroyed by fire, as well as the documents stored there. The next building was destroyed by a tornado in 1877. 1881, the present courthouse was built, which was fully renovated until 1963 after the collapse of the front in 1959.
