Wachseldorn

Wachseldorn is a municipality in the administrative district of Thun in the canton of Bern in Switzerland.

Geography

The place is located northeast of Steffi castle on the eastern foothills of the Buchholterberg mountain. The two largest settlements are Wachseldorn village ( 992 m) in the western and Süderen (905 m) in the eastern part of the municipality. There are also several groups of houses and farmsteads. The most important rivers are the pipe and the Weidbächli, both of which drain to the south and open into the Rotachen. In the northwest you will find the Wachseldornmoos, a moor of national importance. It is, however - despite its name - almost entirely on the communal land of Buchholterberg. Just north of Wachseldorn village rises the Wachseldornhubel that with 1'034 m asl the highest point of the municipality is. In the center of the village are from north to south larger forest areas. Of the total area of 351 ha community 71.2 % are used for agriculture. Other 23.7% of the municipal land is covered by forest and woodland, and only 5.1% settlement area.

Wachseldorn bordered to the west by Buchholterberg, in the north and east by Röthenbach im Emmental and on the south by Oberlangenegg.

Population

The end of 2005 the city counted 250 inhabitants.

Languages

The people speak in everyday life, a high Alemannic dialect, which belongs to the German dialects of Bern. At the last census in 2000 all residents reported German as their main language.

Religions - faiths

In earlier times the entire population belonged to the Evangelical Reformed Church. By leaving the church and immigration from other regions in Switzerland and abroad, this has changed. Today ( as of 2000) are 90.04 % Evangelical Protestant, Roman Catholic, 3.20% and 0.36 % Free Church Christians. In addition, there are 2.85% non-religious. 3.56 % of residents did not detail their Glaubensbekenntnís.

Origin - Nationality

Beginning of 2005 were 266 residents of the 265 ( = 99.62 %), Swiss citizen. At the last census there were even 100 %.

The voting shares of the parties at the national elections of 2011 were: SVP 68.2 %, BDP 10.4 %, EPP 4.7 %, GPS 4.6 %, SP 3.9 %, EDU 3.7 %, SD 1.0 %, Alps Parliament 1.0 %, glp 0.9 %, CVP 0.3 %, FDP 0.3 %.

Traffic

The place is connected by bus line 42 (tuna Süderen - Heimenschwand ) of the STI to the network of public transport.

The district is located on the Süderen Schallenbergstrasse of Steffisburg to Entlebuch. The district Wachseldorn village on the other hand respectively on the road Süderen - Bleiken - Oberdiessbach. Süderen - Fahrni - Steffi castle. The nearest motorway connections Thun-Nord and gravels on the A6.
