Wacław Borowski

Waclaw Borowski (* 1885 in Łódź, † 1954 ) was a Polish painter, graphic artist and stage designer. He was a leading Polish artists of the classical period in Poland in the 1920s and 1930s.

Life

Borowski studied from 1905 to 1909 painting at the Art Academy in Krakow under Józef Mehoffer and art history at the Jagiellonian University. From 1909 to 1913 he lived in Paris, where he copied the old masters in the Louvre, above all. In his time in Paris Borowski designed title pages and illustrations for the magazine " Museion " which propagated the rebirth of classical music. 1914 to 1919 he lived in Switzerland. In between, he traveled to Italy to study the works of Renaissance masters in their life at that time environments. 1920, Borowski volunteer in the Polish-Soviet War. In 1922 he was one of the founders of the Warsaw artist group " Rytm " (Polish: " Stowarzyszenie Artystów Polskich Rytm " ), in which he - for many years as its president - engaged until 1932. In 1926, he joined the Association of Visual Artists " RYT " (Polish: " Stowarzyszenia Artystów Grafików RYT " ) in, and since 1932 he was a member of the Society for the Promotion of Fine Arts in Warsaw. Between 1927 and 1933 he taught at the Warsaw Institute of Plastic Arts.

His aesthetics of the new classicism based on the principles of the Renaissance, but also on his time in Paris, especially André Derain and Henri Matisse had influence exerted on it. With Eugeniusz Zak he formed a close friendship; together they developed a style of expression with a beautiful and poetic mood in which this expression of the Italian Quattrocento was still excessive. In addition to paintings Season Borowski also created significant monumental images. In 1925, the wall painting in the hall of the Thursday dinner at the Royal Castle in Warsaw, among many other significant Cafe " Mała Ziemiańska " in the Mazowiecka Street in Warsaw ( 1927).

Borowski was also successful as a stage, especially for the Teatr Polski in Warsaw, he created many stage sets. He was also involved in the design of banknotes for the Polish banknote printing.
