History

On April 20, 1233 sold Floris IV, Count of Holland, for 200 guilders a Venngebiet to Nicolaas van Gnepwijk. The area was named Waddinxvene. Therefore, April 20, 1233 is the date of birth of Waddinxveen.

Origin of the name

It is possible that the name part - Waddinx of a personal name Wadding comes. Another possibility is that the name comes from Watts (Dutch Wadden ).
