Career

Wade grew up in a hockey family. His father Gord played in 1969 with the Regina Pats in the Finals to the Memorial Cup. Clearly, even as Wade began playing ice hockey. After he had made his first steps in his hometown of Lloydminster, he played as a junior Brandon Wheat Kings in the WHL. For NHL Entry Draft 1995, there were two defenders were on the all eyes. In addition to Wade and Bryan Berard was in focus. The Ottawa Senators use their "First Overall Pick" for Berard and Redden went to the New York Islanders in second. Redden, who won the gold medal at the World Championships with the Canadian Junior National Team in 1995 and 1996 was another year in Brandon. Like his father, he also managed in 1995 and 1996 in the finals of the Memorial Cup, but just gave it not for him to victory.

In January 1996, the Islanders and the Senators had agreed to swap Redden against Berard and so started Wade for season 1996/ 97 for the Ottawa Senators his NHL career. Redden fulfilled the hopes placed in him and became one of the best defenders in the NHL. With its excellent skills, he was also repeatedly found in the scorer lists and in the 2005/06 season he managed 50 points for the first time. A particular strength of Redden is the opening game. After he wins the puck in defense, he plays a very dangerous opponent for the first pass. Even in international tournaments Redden was always active for the Canadian national hockey team. He played in 1999, 2001 and 2005 at the World Championships. In 2002, he was the NHL All-Star Game here. He also played at the 2006 Olympics in Turin.

After eleven NHL seasons with the Ottawa Senators Redden signed in July 2008 a contract with the New York Rangers, who should bring him $ 39 million in six years contract period. However, the defense was unable to repeat his previous performance and became more and more criticism. The New York Post described the treaty in 2009 as the " worst in the history of the NHL ." After two seasons, he was finally to the Connecticut Whale, the farm team of the Rangers in the American Hockey League, ordered and appointed in the following season for the captain of the team. After the expiration of the NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement and the subsequent lockout management of the Rangers decided before the start of the 2012/13 season, however, not re- appointed Redden in the squad of the farm teams, so its intended season salary of $ 5 million will not pay to need.

After the end of the lockout Redden was eventually bought out from his contract on 18 January 2013. On the same day he signed as a free agent a new one-year contract with the St. Louis Blues. On April 3, 2013, was transferred to the Boston Bruins.
