Wahiba Sands

The Rimal Al Wahiba, Wahiba Sands or Sharqiyah Sands (Arabic رمال آل وهيبة, DMG Rimal Āl Wahiba ) is a desert region in the ash Sharqiyah in eastern Oman. The area extends over 180 km from north to south, and is about 80 km wide. The surface area is approximately 12,500 km ².

The large dunes in the north parallel to each other in a north-south direction as itself can still be seen well on the satellite image. In between are located in two of the emerging between the dunes funnel routes that are repeatedly traveled daily by Bedouins and visitors with four-wheel vehicles. These routes are not staked or attached, but are formed exclusively by tire tracks of previous vehicles. About 20 kilometers south of the northern end there are several tourist camps that recently can also be reached via a gravel road part. In the middle of the Wahiba Sands are some Bedouin dwellings. In summer it is extremely hot in the Wahiba Sands. Driving can be recommended only in the early morning hours.
