Wahkiakum County, Washington

Wahkiakum County is a county located in the state of Washington of the United States. It has 3,824 inhabitants. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Cathlamet.

Geography

The Columbia River is the border between Washington and Oregon, and forms the southern boundary of the county. The county has an area of ​​743 square kilometers, of which 684 square miles of land and 58 square miles ( 7.83 percent) of water.

The County is the smallest by area and population in Washington County, and according to the population density in the lower third.

History

The County was formed in 1954. The name goes back to a Chinook tribe, the Wahkiakum, the first described in Lewis and Clark, 1805.
