Geography

Location and Outline

Wahlburg located in the far north of North Hesse on the Weser River between the cities of Hann. Munden and bathroom Karl harbor. To the north rises the Solling, south of the Kiffing ( in the south), behind which is the Bramwald ( in the southeast ), beyond the Weser the Reinhard Forest. The municipality is crossed by the Schwülme which opens from the east in the district Lippold mountain into the Weser.

The municipal election castle consists of two districts Lippold mountain ( seat of the municipal administration) and Vernawahlshausen.

The mountain Wahlburg, located between two villages, not part of the municipality of Wahlburg, but to the neighboring village of Upper Weser.

Neighboring communities

Wahlburg bordered to the north by the stains ground field, and the unincorporated area " Solling ", on the east by the city Uslar ( all three in the district of Northeim, in Lower Saxony), in the south on the community of Upper Weser, in the west to the unincorporated territory " Gutsbezirk Reinhardswald " and to the northwest by Gewissenruh, a municipality part of Upper Weser (all in the district of Kassel).

History

In 1059 Archbishop Luitpold of Mainz built a wooden chapel at the site of today's Lippold mountain. The district Vernawahlshausen was first mentioned in 1233 as an election Husen. The name was later changed to better differentiate from Wahlshausen because it was further settled by the then Government Headquarters. In the 18th century Vernawahlshausen was known as the largest linen bleaching in Hesse.

In the course of municipal reform in Hesse joined on 1 February 1971, the two communities Lippold mountain and Vernawahlshausen for municipal election castle together. The name comes from the Carolingian Fliehburg whose almost completely worn ruin lies between the two districts.

The choice Burgergemeinde part Lippold Mountain is a state- recognized health resort since 1980.

Coat of arms

The emblem option Petersburg shows on the left a white column on a red background symbolizing the monastery church of Lippold mountain. On the right side of white linen is mapped on green meadow in white and green curved lines, as a sign of the historical significance of linen bleaching in Vernawahlshausen to earlier times.

Culture and sights

The municipal election Castle is a member of the German Fairy Tale Road and has a fairy-tale character, the brave little tailor.

Concerts

In the monastery church Lippoldsberg changes monthly concerts and events. Fixed dates are the Good Friday Concert and Advent music (3rd Advent ).

Churches

The monastery church of St. George and St. Mary in Lippold Mountain is one of the most important Romanesque buildings of the 12th century. It was built around 1142 to 1153. The outside simple, unsegmented stained sandstone building has inside a domed cruciform pillar basilica square based system and a doppeltürmiges Westwerk. The baptismal font dates from the 13th century. In the parish church of St. Margaret boarded either houses from the 11th century can be seen, which were extensively restored in recent years, still remains of the Gothic and Romanesque wall painting.

The Catholic Church of St. Maria Goretti was built in 1957 on the northern outskirts of Lippold mountain. In the Catholic Church the Holy Family in Vernawahlshausen, built in 1966 at the Old Stadtweg, find no regular services are held longer.

The municipal election castle is located on the B 80

The district Vernawahlshausen has a train stop on the railway line Göttingen- ground field.

Established businesses

The most important employers in the municipal election castle with more than 300 employees nowadays which is located on 200 to 220 m altitude in the range of hills Kiffing " clinic and rehabilitation center Lippoldsberg gGmbH ", which included a Berufsförderungswerk until the end of November 2012.

  • The tale ferry connects Lippold mountain with the Vorwerk.
