Location of Wahlstorf in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern

Wahlstorf is a municipality in the district Gehlsbach Ludwigslust - Parchim in Mecklenburg -Vorpommern ( Germany ). The formerly independent municipality Wahlstorf merged on 1 January 2014 the municipality Karbow - Vietlübbe to the newly formed community Gehlsbach.

Geography and transport

The town is near the border with Brandenburg, about twelve kilometers south of Lübz in a flat area without prominent hills. The Gehlsbach and Seegraben formed as rivers the eastern and northern boundary of the former township. Both are, as well as the Quaßliner Moor and the south of the municipality ( Marienfließ ), a nature reserve.

The place is located west of Federal Highway 103 and north of the federal motorway 24 The latter can be reached via the injection port Walk. Larger inter-regional roads do not exist in the community.

Districts of the former municipality were:

  • Darß, a small Angersdorf original seven smallholdings
  • Quaßlin
  • Quaßliner mill ( until March 1937 an exclave of the Prussian province of Brandenburg and part of the municipality Jännersdorf )
  • Wahlstorf

History

The district is located in the historic landscape T (h ) ure. The village was mentioned in 1300 for the first time Quaßlin Quarcellyn documented. The village name comes from the Slavic word from kvasŭ for meal, so grinding ( milling ) location or place of Kvasola ( place of the miller )

The name derives from the Slavic Wahlstorf locator of the village, so the village of Val, as in Tessenowstraße with place of Tesen. The name of the local part Darß is derived from the old Slavic word for DRACI from briar, so Dornort.
