Waikiki Wedding is an American musical comedy from 1937. Directed by Frank Tuttle.

Action

Tony Marvin is advertising specialist and works for a pineapple company in Hawaii. The company organizes a beauty contest and its winner Georgia must be supervised by Tony. It shows Georgia and her cheeky friend Myrtle Island. At Tony's great sorrow Georgia Hawaii is but boring and want to fly back to the mainland. This project is in derogation of the advertising professional with sometimes drastic, sometimes romantic ideas.

Background

The film sparked a boom from Hawaii to the American mainland. Although Waikiki Wedding was shot mostly in the studios of Paramount Pictures in Los Angeles and only a few shots of Hawaii were to be seen in the final cut, the Americans turned their attention in the late 1930s increasingly on the island. The song Sweet Leilani Bing Crosby was first release, which has sold over a million copies. Another, sung by Bing Crosby song from the soundtrack, Blue Hawaii, was founded in 1961 in the interpretation of Elvis Presley in the eponymous film a hit.

For the later award-winning costume designer Edith Head 's Oscar Waikiki Wedding was one of the first films, as well as for the actor Anthony Quinn, who plays a supporting role in the Hawaiian Kimo.

Awards

The song Sweet Leilani by Harry Owens, sung in the film by Bing Crosby, was honored at the Academy Awards in 1938 as " Best Song ". In addition, the choreographer LeRoy was Prince for "Best Dance Director " nomination, but the price went to a damsel in distress.
