Wajima Hiroshi

Hiroshi Wajima (轮 岛 大 士Japanese, actually :轮 岛 博, born January 11, 1948 in Nanao, Ishikawa Prefecture) was a Japanese sumo wrestler and the 54th yokozuna.

Wajima, former yokozuna amateur college sports, was the first Grand Master, who came from the university sumo. In 1970, the graduate of the Tokyo Nihon University decided to pursue a professional career. In 1971, he had risen in the Makuuchi division, a year later, he attained the rank of ozeki, and in 1973, another year later, was promoted to yokozuna Wajima. In the following years he delivered himself with his arch-rival Kitanoumi spectacular duels and won a total of 14 tournaments.

1980 Wajima adopted by increasingly occurring failure and a recent tournament victory from active competition and was as equerry of Hanakago - Beya worked - the permission he had obtained by the marriage of a daughter of the old Hanakago - obayata, who later arranged as to this marriage of convenience turned out, what the occasion a suicide attempt of his wife caused a scandal in April 1982, for the Wajima had to publicly apologize to.
