The University of Wakayama (Japanese和 歌 山 大学, Wakayama daigaku, in short: Wadai (和 大) ) is a state university in Japan. It is located in Wakayama in Wakayama Prefecture.

History

The university was founded in 1949 by the merger of three state schools. The three were:

  • The normal school Wakayama (和 歌 山 师范学校, Wakayama shihan Gakko, founded in 1874 ),
  • Youth Normal School Wakayama (和 歌 山 青年 师范学校, Wakayama his shihan Gakko in Iwade, founded in 1919 ), and
  • The business school Wakayama (和 歌 山 経 済 専 门 学校, Wakayama keizai Semmon Gakko founded 1922).

The university was opened with two faculties: Liberal Arts and Economics. In 1966, the Faculty of Liberal Arts was changed to the faculty of education. First, each school was located in their own small campus. 1986, the current Sakaedani campus was opened, and the faculties moved there. In the new campus two faculties were added: Systems Engineering (1995) and Tourism Research (2008).

The former Fukiage Campus ( Education, 34 ° 13 ' 24 "N, 135 ° 10' 21" O34.223256135.17238 ) was the former home of the School of Kishū - Han, and today there are the affiliated with the Faculty of Basic educational and middle schools and the prefectural museum.
