Wakulla County, Florida

The Wakulla County is a county located in the state of Florida in the United States. The administrative headquarters ( County Seat) is Crawfordville.

History

The Wakulla County was formed on March 11, 1843 from parts of the Leon County. It was named probably after a word of the Timucua Indians and means something like " mysterious water ".

Parts of the 1936 designated National Forest Apalachicola National Forest extend County.

Geography & Attractions

The county has an area of ​​1,906 square kilometers, of which 334 square kilometers are water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Franklin County, Liberty County, Gadsden County, Leon County and Jefferson County.

The most famous attraction of the county are the Wakulla Springs, one of the largest freshwater springs in the world.
