Walailak University

The Walailak University ( Thai มหาวิทยาลัย วลัย ลักษณ์, English:. Walailak University) is a public university in the southern region of Thailand, which has received an unusually high degree of autonomy.

The Walailak University is located in the district ( Amphoe ) Tha Sala, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Students

Approximately 6,000 students are enrolled at Walailak University and are supported by 800 members of the university.

The tuition fees are 12000-22000 baht.

History

The Walailak University was founded in 1992 and officially opened in 1998. It is named after Princess Chulabhorn Walailak.

The current President is Prof. Dr. Thai Tipsuwannakun.

The colors of the University are orange and purple. Orange in Thailand is the Thai traditional color for a Thursday. On this day of the week Princess Chulabhorn Walailak was born. Purple was chosen as the color of the Nakhon Si Thammarat province, which in turn from the reformer and innovator in the education system in southern Thailand, Abbot Phra Rattanatchamuni, derived, who worked under King Chulalongkorn ( 1868-1910 ).
